How Our Pricing Works
Rates aren’t hourly — they’re set by “half-day” or “full-day” blocks. If a booking runs past half a day, the full-day rate applies; if it runs past a full day, the set hourly extension rate applies.
What Determines Your Quote
Language
English, French, Spanish, and other languages each carry different rates depending on the assignment.
Content and expertise
Interpreting for a sightseeing tour and interpreting a specialist medical lecture call for different levels of expertise — and different rates.
Format and headcount
Consecutive, simultaneous, or whispered interpreting, and the number of interpreters required, both affect the rate.
Interpreter class
Rates differ depending on the class of interpreter assigned — Class A, Class B, or General.
Hours and number of days
Time on the clock each day (half-day, full-day, extension, early morning, evening, etc.) and the total number of days required.
Arrangement fee
A separate arrangement fee may apply depending on round-trip travel costs and travel time.
Interpreting Formats
Choosing the right format for your situation makes communication go far more smoothly. Interpreting also demands intense concentration, which places a practical limit on how long one person can work alone.
Consecutive Interpreting
The interpreter relays what’s been said after the speaker pauses. No equipment is needed — the interpreter takes notes as they go. Well suited to situations where nuance and accuracy matter most.
Simultaneous Interpreting
The interpreter relays the speaker’s words in near real time. This requires dedicated equipment — headsets, microphones — and often a soundproof booth. Because it demands intense concentration, it’s usually handled by a team taking turns.
Whispered Interpreting
The interpreter sits beside the listener and relays the translation in a low voice. No equipment needed and easy to arrange, but not suited to long sessions.
Interpreter Classes
Interpreters are grouped into three classes — A, B, and General — based on experience and specialist knowledge.
Interpreters with 10+ years of experience and a proven track record. With deep specialist knowledge, they deliver clear, precise interpreting for lectures, seminars, and press conferences.
Interpreters with 5+ years of experience, skilled in both consecutive and whispered interpreting. Well suited to business meetings, general training, and emceeing or speeches at weddings and receptions. Simultaneous interpreting is also available for general subject matter. Interpreters able to handle three or more languages within a single assignment are also classed as Class B.
Interpreters well suited to general-purpose interpreting — accompaniment, sightseeing, trade show booths, and similar work.
